Justice at Risk: Factitious Disorders, Malingering
Piazza del Duomo Unlike most clinical areas, history and symptoms in the forensic arena can never be taken at face value. Deception is a frequent element in both criminal and civil matters. Forensic psychiatrists thus need to be experts in not just the evaluation of phenomenology, but also in epistemology, in order to effectively validate opinions provided to courts. The theme for the conference is to take risk assessment one step further than the risks presented by the patient, yet also to step back and re-evaluate the bases on which forensic opinions are formed. We anticipate this conference will attract forensic mental health practitioners from around the world and provide a unique opportunity Our venue, the Monash University Centre in Prato, promises to be an ideal setting for our conference, and provide a perfect environment for immersion in Italian language and culture. We invite all interested professionals to submit an abstract for consideration by the program committee. Registration for the conference will open in early 2010. John Chalk and Ness McVie (Convenors)
